(1) a two-hour examination in which candidates are required to complete either an exercise in canon on a given opening, to a specified length from a model announced by the Faculty Board; or a song-accompaniment exercise in a later nineteenth-century or twentieth-century tonal style; and
(2) a style composition course-work submission, for which candidates are required to offer one element from a list announced by the Faculty Board.
Details can be found in the Guide to Courses hosted on the Faculty website at https://www.mus.cam.ac.uk.
The examination (Section 1) will carry one third of the marks with the remaining two thirds carried by the composition (Section 2). Two copies of the composition must be submitted to the Chair of Examiners so as to arrive not later than the fifteenth day of Full Easter Term.
The examination is of four hours’ duration. Candidates are required to compose a fugue in not more than four parts from a choice of subjects announced by the Faculty Board.
The Faculty Board of Music have confirmed that no candidate’s preparation for the examination in 2015 will be adversely affected.
