Regulations for examinations

Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Tripos

SUPPLEMENTARY REGULATIONS

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 283)

With immediate effect

The Supplementary Regulations have been amended for the Part II paper MES.38, available for examination under Regulation 8, by amending the current title and replacing the text so as to read:

MES.38 History of the modern Middle East: language, national identity, and conflict

The paper investigates the role language plays in articulating national identity and conflict in the Middle East. The main focus of the paper will be on Arabic, but consideration will also be given to Hebrew, Persian, and Turkish.

Land Economy Tripos

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 356)

With effect from 1 October 2014

The General Board have, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Land Economy, approved the following amendments.

The title, content, and form of examination for Paper 3 have been amended so that legal research skills are now studied alongside the existing quantitative skills, and so that a project report is no longer required.

Regulation 12.

Group I

By retitling Paper 3 as 'Quantitative and legal methods for land economists'.

By removing Paper 3 from the list of papers requiring the submission of a report.

By replacing the detail of Paper 3 so as to read:

Group I

Paper 3. Quantitative and legal methods for land economy

An introduction to relevant skills required for successful study on the Land Economy Tripos. These include legal skills, mathematics (including refreshing mathematical skills), statistics, and qualitative policy analysis.

Groups I, II, AND III

Papers 3, 4, and 6: project reports

By amending the heading so as to read:

Papers 4 and 6: project reports

Law Tripos: Correction

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 361)

With effect from 1 October 2014

The following amendment, which has been approved by the General Board on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Law, is a correction to the Notice published on 27 November 2013 (Reporter, 6327, 2013–14, p. 117).

Regulation 18.

By placing the current regulation in square brackets, and by inserting a regulation in angular brackets so as to read:

<18. A candidate for honours in Part Ib shall offer five papers chosen from among Papers 1, 2, and 4 and Groups II and III, provided that

(i)a candidate who has not offered successfully Paper 5 in Part Ia shall also offer Paper 5 in Part Ib;

(ii)a candidate who was not a candidate for honours in Part Ia shall also offer Paper 5 in Part Ib;

(iii)a candidate shall not offer any paper which he or she has previously offered in another University examination.>

And by inserting two footnotes to the current regulation so as to read:

The regulation in angular brackets will replace the Regulation in square brackets with effect from 1 October 2014. Regulation 18(i) is applicable with effect from 1 October 2015.

Natural Sciences Tripos, Part Ib

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 399)

With effect from 1 October 2013

The General Board, on the recommendation of the Committee of Management for the Natural Sciences Tripos, have approved the following amendment.

Regulation 23.

The duration of the practical examination in Plant and Microbial Sciences is extended from one hour to one and a half hours.
