Regulations for Examinations

Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Tripos, Part II

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 277)

With effect from 1 October 2013

The General Board have, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, approved an amendment to Regulation 22 governing Part II of the Tripos in order to clarify which language papers may be taken and to standardize the oral examination requirement.

Regulation 22.

By amending sub-paragraph (b) so as to read:

(b) Chinese with Japanese

Candidates shall offer:

(i)Papers J.4–5 from Part Ib of the Tripos;

(ii)Paper C.12;

(iii)either Paper C.11;

or Paper C.13;

(iv)two papers chosen from the papers announced by the Faculty Board under Regulation 8, provided that only papers prefixed with C. may be chosen.

Candidates shall also offer a Japanese oral examination, under conditions set out by the Faculty Board from time to time.

By amending sub-paragraph (d) so as to read:

(d) Japanese with Chinese

Candidates shall offer

(i)Papers C.4-5; from Part Ib of the Tripos;

(ii)Paper J. 12;

(iii)three papers chosen from the papers announced by the Faculty Board under Regulation 8, provided that only papers prefixed with J., EAS., or K. may be chosen.

Candidates shall also offer a Chinese oral examination, under conditions set out by the Faculty Board from time to time.

The Faculty Board have confirmed that no candidate’s preparation for the examination in 2014 will be affected.

Manufacturing Engineering Tripos, Part IIb

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 369)

With effect from 1 October 2014

The General Board have, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Engineering, approved the introduction of a requirement that students who wish to take Part IIb of the Manufacturing Engineering Tripos in the year next but one after Part IIa must make a reasoned case to the Faculty Board.

Regulation 5.

By inserting new sub-paragraph (c) as follows:

(c)presents a reasoned case to the Faculty Board by the Division of Easter Term of the year in which Part IIa is taken should he or she wish to proceed to Part IIb in the year next but one after obtaining honours in Part IIa;

Diploma in Economics

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 564)

With immediate effect

The General Board have approved a retitling of the Diploma in Economics as the Advanced Diploma in Economics, following approval for the raising of the Diploma from level 5 to 6 of the Qualifications and Credit Framework.
