Annual Meetings of the Faculties

Earth Sciences and Geography

The Chair of the Faculty Board of Earth Sciences and Geography gives notice that the Annual Meeting of the Faculty will be held at 2.15 p.m. on Tuesday, 20 November 2012, in the Seminar Room, Department of Geography, Downing Place. The business will be the election, in accordance with Statute C, IV, 2, of two members of the board in class (c) to serve for four years from 1 January 2013 and one member to serve in class (c) for two years from 1 January 2013.

Nominations for the election and notice of any other business should reach the Secretary of the Faculty Board (email: secretary@esg.cam.ac.uk) not later than 16 November 2012.

Economics

The Chairman of the Faculty Board of Economics gives notice that the Annual Meeting of the Faculty will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, 19 November 2012, in the Meade Room, Austin Robinson Building, Sidgwick Avenue. The agenda for the meeting will be circulated to each member of the Faculty. One of the items of business will be to elect, in accordance with Statute C, IV, 2(c), two members of the Faculty Board in class (c) to serve for four years, from 1 January 2013.

Nominations in writing, signed by the proposer and seconder, together with an indication of the nominee’s willingness to serve, should reach the Secretary, Marie Butcher (email: mab30@cam.ac.uk), Faculty of Economics, Austin Robinson Building, Sidgwick Avenue, by 12 noon on Thursday, 15 November 2012. It would be helpful if notice of any other business that members wish to be discussed were sent in writing to the Secretary by 10 a.m. on Monday, 12 November 2012.

English

The Chairman of the Faculty Board of English gives notice that the Annual Meeting of the Faculty will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, 15 November 2012, in the Faculty of English, 9 West Road. Elections will be held for places on the following committees:

(c)to serve for four years from 1 January 2013 (Statute C, IV, 2(c));

• Planning and Resources Committee: one member to serve for two years from 1 January 2013.

Nominations for the election, and notice of any other business, should be sent to the Secretary of the Faculty Board, Ms Gillian Weale (email: glw33@cam.ac.uk) by 12 noon on Monday, 12 November 2012.

History

The Chairman of the Faculty Board of History gives notice that the Annual Meeting of the Faculty will be held at 2.15 p.m. on Tuesday, 20 November 2012, in Seminar Room 6 in the Faculty of History. The agenda for the meeting will be circulated to each member of the Faculty. Among the business to be transacted will be the election, in accordance with Statute C, IV, 2(c), of four members to serve on the Faculty Board for four years from 1 January 2013.

Nominations for the election, and notice of any other business, should reach the Secretary at the Faculty of History, West Road, not later than 12 noon on Tuesday, 13 November 2012.

Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Tripos, Part II, 2013: Amendment

The Faculty Board of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies give notice of an amendment to the Notice of 22 June 2011 (Reporter, 2010–11, p. 952) so as to amend the title of MES.40 offered under Regulation 8 for the Part II examination for the Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Tripos in 2013.

By amending the title of Paper MES. 40

from

MES.40 Special subject in the contemporary Middle East: Political anthropology of Islam and the Middle East

to

MES.40 Special subject in the contemporary Middle East.

Candidates may choose one of the following two subjects: (i) Political anthropology of Islam and the Middle East or (ii) Israel: the invention of a culture.

The course-work that constitutes this paper assessment consists of one research essay, of between 6,000 and 7,500 words, including footnotes and excluding bibliography. Each student will develop the topic of the essay in consultation with the instructor. A one-page topic and paper outline will be due during the first class session of Lent Term. Two copies of the project shall be submitted to the Programmes Administrator in the Faculty so as to arrive not later than the third Friday of Full Easter Term.

The Faculty Board are satisfied that no candidate’s preparation for the examination will be affected.

Mathematical Tripos, Part III, 2013: Notice

The Faculty Board of Mathematics give notice that, in accordance with Regulations 16 and 17 for the Mathematical Tripos (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 372), there will be set in 2013 if candidates desire to present themselves therein, a paper in each of the subjects in the following list.
