University Composition Fees: Notice

11 June 2012

In the following Notice the Council proposes amendments to the fees for certain categories of students.

Fees for certain courses in 2012–13

Increase in fees for Home and EU postgraduate students in 2012–13

The Council has agreed to propose a rate of increase of 2.57% on 2011–12 fees for Home and EU postgraduate students for the academical year 2012–13; this reflects guidance offered by the Research Councils.

M.D., M.B.A., M.Fin., and M.St. courses

The Council has agreed to propose fees for 2012–13 for the M.D., M.B.A., and M.Fin. courses, and certain M.St. courses which have been recommended by the relevant bodies, as set out in the Table attached to this Notice (see p. 706).

Fees for certain courses in 2013–14

Fees for overseas students in 2013–14

For overseas students, the Council proposes that, in the year 2013–14, fees should be increased by an inflation figure of 5% except for students commencing courses for the following degrees: Ph.D., M.Sc., M.Litt., Eng.D., Ed.D., and the Certificate of Postgraduate Study for whom an increase of 10% of the 2012–13 fee is proposed, reflecting a move to a fixed annual fee for the duration of each student’s course (i.e. the fee in each year will be the same as the fee in the year of entry).

Additional increments for certain postgraduate courses in the Schools of Arts and Humanities, the Humanities and Social Sciences, and Technology from 1 September 2013

The Councils of the Schools have recommended that the fees for the courses listed below should be increased, with effect from 1 September 2013, by the following amounts in addition to the general increase:

Notice of a benefaction

11 June 2012

The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that he has received with gratitude a benefaction of £1m, to support teaching and research in Christian Theology, and to support the Regius Professorship of Divinity, from the Mulberry Trust, a charity formed and funded by John and Morwenna Marks. Trinity College has agreed that £1m from the sums donated by the College in support of Professorships in the Schools of Arts and Humanities and the Humanities and Social Sciences, as announced in the Vice-Chancellor’s Notice of 17 July 2006 (Reporter, 2005–06, p. 834), should be allocated for the same purposes.

The Council is submitting a Grace (Grace 2, p. 722) for the approval of regulations to govern the John Marks and Mulberry Trust Fund.

Report of the General Board on the Senior Academic Promotions (SAP) procedure: Notice in reply to Discussion remarks

11 June 2012

The Council has received the comments on this Report at the Discussion on 29 May 2012 (Reporter, 2011-12, p. 696). It has forwarded these comments to the General Board and the Human Resources Committee for consideration. However, the Council does not consider that the introduction of the modification to the procedures proposed in the General Board’s Report need to be delayed as neither speaker spoke against the substantive proposals. It is therefore submitting a Grace (Grace 3, p. 722) for the approval of the recommendations in the Report.
