SUPPLEMENTARY REGULATIONS

With effect from 1 October 2012

The Faculty Board of Economics give notice that they have amended the detail for certain papers as follows:

Paper 10. Theory and practice of econometrics II

By amending the detail so as to read:

This paper develops and extends the econometric techniques beyond those covered in Paper 3 in Part IIa. It will involve discussion of the empirical application of these techniques to economic problems using examples from the econometric literature. Technical derivations will be kept to a minimum. The examination for this paper consists of a written paper of three hours’ duration.

Paper 17. A subject in the field of sociology and politics

(a)An interdisciplinary subject III (Paper Int. 5 of the Politics, Psychology, and Sociology Tripos)

By removing this subject and relettering the following subjects (b)–(e) as (a)–(d).

Land Economy Tripos

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 335)

With effect from 1 October 2012

The form of examination for Paper 15 has been amended so that a project report is no longer required.

Regulation 12.

Group III

By replacing in line 3 of the final paragraph the words ‘Papers 3, 4, 6, and 15’ by the words ‘Papers 3, 4, and 6’.

By amending the heading so as to read:

Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 356)

With effect from 1 October 2012

The regulations for Parts Ia, Ib, and II of the Tripos have been amended. Certain papers in Modern Greek will be available at Part II during the academic year 2012–13; all papers in Modern Greek specified in Schedule A will be suspended until further notice thereafter (see Reporter, 2008–09, p. 657). Papers in French have been revised and restructured across Parts Ib and II in order that a clear menu of papers is available at Part Ib that acts as a feeder into Part II. The titles and lists of other papers in German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Linguistics available to candidates under Schedules Ia, Ib, and II have also been amended.

Regulation 18(a).

By removing the current footnote concerning the availability of papers in Modern Greek, and replacing it with a sentence so as to read:

Certain papers will be available at Part II during the academic year 2012–13. All papers in Modern Greek as specified in Schedule A will be suspended until further notice thereafter.

This paper will be suspended until 1 October 2013.

It. 9. A special subject in Italian culture

This paper will be suspended until 1 October 2013.

Portuguese

Pg. 1. By reinstating the paper and amending the title from Introduction to the structure and varieties of modern Portuguese to Introduction to the language, literatures, and cultures of Portuguese speaking countries.

Pg. 2. Introduction to Lusophone literature

This paper will be suspended until further notice.

Pg. 5. Literature and culture of Portugal and Brazil

This paper will be suspended until further notice. It will, however, be available to be offered as an Optional Dissertation.

Russian

Ru. 5. By amending the title of the paper from Culture from the Golden Age to the Silver Age to Russian culture from the Golden Age to the Silver Age.

Spanish

Sp. 1. By revising the existing paper and amending the title from Introduction to the structure and varieties of modern Spanish to Introduction to the language, literatures, and cultures of the Spanish speaking world.

Sp. 2. Introduction to Hispanic texts.

This paper will be suspended until further notice.

Linguistics

Li. 5. Linguistic theory (Paper 5 of the Linguistics Tripos (New Regulations)).

By removing the paper from the list of papers that may be taken.

SCHEDULE Ia

By amending the Schedule so as to remove papers Pg. 2, Sp. 2, and Ru. 2 from the list of papers that may be taken.

SCHEDULE Ib

By amending the Schedule so as to:

(i)suspend papers Du. 2, Du. 3, and Du. 4 until further notice.

(ii)remove the dagger from paper Du. 5 so as to indicate that the paper is not available as a portfolio of essays under Regulation 23.

(iii)add Paper Fr. 2 to the Schedule. This paper will not be available as a portfolio of essays under Regulation 23.

(vi)remove the dagger from paper Fr. 5 so as to indicate that it is no longer available as a portfolio of essays under Regulation 23.

(v)remove papers Fr. 7, Fr. 8, Fr. 9, Fr. 10, Fr. 11, and Fr. 12 from the list of papers that may be taken.

(vi)remove the asterisk from paper Ge. 2, which currently restricts the paper to be able to be taken only by candidates who offered Option A in the language concerned in Part Ia, and to replace it with a dagger so as to denote it as being available as a portfolio of essays under Regulation 23.

(vii)remove Paper Ge. 12 from the list of papers that may be taken.

(viii)suspend Paper It. 3 until 1 October 2013.

(ix)suspend papers Pg. 2 and Sp. 2 until further notice.

SCHEDULE II

By amending the Schedule so as to:

(i)remove papers Fr. 3, Fr. 4, Fr. 5, Fr. 6, and Ge. 7 from the list of papers that may be taken.

(ii)add papers Fr. 14, Fr. 15, and Fr. 16 to the list of papers that may be taken.

(iii)suspend Paper It. 9 until 1 October 2013.

(iv)suspend Paper Pg. 5 until further notice.

The Faculty Board of Modern and Medieval Languages have confirmed that no candidate’s preparation for the examination in 2013 will be affected by these changes.

Diplomas and Certificates open to non-members of the University: Notice

The General Board have approved the following amendment to the regulation for the Advanced Diploma administered by the Institute of Continuing Education:

By replacing in line 3 the word limit of 15,000–20,000 by a word limit of 16,000–20,000.
