Form and conduct of examinations

Land Economy Tripos, 2011

The Faculty Board of Land Economy give notice that, with effect from the examinations to be held in 2011, the form of the examinations for certain papers for the Land Economy Tripos will be changed as follows:

Part Ia

Group I

Paper 1A. Economics I

The paper will be examined through a two-hour written paper. The paper will contain no fewer than six questions, of which candidates will be required to answer four.

Paper 1B. Economics II

The paper will be examined through a two-hour written paper. The paper will contain no fewer than six questions, of which candidates will be required to answer four.

Paper 3. Quantitative methods for land economy

The assessment of Paper 3 will comprise a three-hour unseen paper (60% of the final mark for Paper 3), and a project comprising an accounting component (10% of the final mark for Paper 3) and a take-home statistical component (30% of the final mark for Paper 3). The written paper is divided into three sections: Section A – Mathematics (20% of the final mark for Paper 3), Section B – Statistics (20% of the final mark for Paper 3), and Section C – Accounting (20% of the final mark for Paper 3). In each of Sections A and B, there will be no fewer than three questions of which candidates will be required to answer two; in Section C, there will be no fewer than two questions of which candidates will be required to answer one. Candidates will be provided with a list of essential statistical formulae in the examination room.

The total number of questions in the examination paper will be reduced from ten to eight.

The paper will contain no fewer than ten questions, of which candidates will be required to answer four.

All other examinations remain unchanged.

However, candidates are permitted to use unmarked transparent tabs (of any colour). For clarification, it is not permitted to use paper post-it notes.

Changes to the permitted calculators are as follows:

The permitted calculators for use in the Land Economy Tripos examinations will be the standard University calculator CASIO fx 115 (any version); CASIO fx 570 (any version), or CASIO fx 991 (any version), or the Hewlett Packard HP 10BII.
