Bibliographical Society

The next meeting of the society will be held on Wednesday, 24 November, at 5 p.m. in the Morison Room of the University Library. Professor Charles Melville will give a talk entitled Elements of design in the production of Shahnameh manuscripts. Tea will be served from 4.30 p.m. All are welcome.

Philosophical Society

On Monday, 22 November 2010, at 5.30 p.m. in the Bristol-Myers Squibb Lecture Theatre, Department of Chemistry, Lensfield Road, Dr Daan Frenkel, ForMemRS, will deliver a lecture entitled From van der Waals to modelling protein crystallization. All who are interested are invited.

At a meeting held on 8 November 2010 in the Bristol-Myers Squibb Lecture Theatre, Professor A. G. Smith, President, was in the Chair.

Sir Gregory Winter, FRS, MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, delivered a lecture entitled The antibody revolution; from the science and inventions to companies and medicines. A vote of thanks was moved by Professor T. M. Cox.

Cambridge University and College Union

The Annual General Meeting of the Cambridge University and College Union (UCU) will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, 26 November 2010, in the University Social Club, Mill Lane. The first half of the meeting is for members only.

From 1.30 p.m., the meeting will be open to non-members. Michael MacNeil, UCU Head of Higher Education, will speak about the employers’ proposed changes to the USS in an open meeting, to which everyone is welcome.
