Churchill College

PUBLIC LECTURES

The following lectures will take place at Churchill College this term.

On 11 November, Malcolm Brinded and Simon Henry, who are main Executive Directors of the Board of Royal Dutch Shell, will deliver a lecture entitled Energy, climate, and technology – a new world. In this lecture, they will outline how the world’s need for, and approach to, providing energy is going through a fundamental change. This will address the rapidly evolving nature of the global energy mix; how traditional supply and demand patterns are changing through the emergence of new sources of renewable and hydrocarbon energy, as well as rapid demand growth in emerging economies, all linked to the increasing urgency to address climate change concerns.

On 25 November, Dr Ralph Cicerone, President of the US National Academy of Sciences and Chair of the National Research Council will talk about Contemporary climate change: human causes and challenges. His research in atmospheric chemistry, climate change, and energy has involved him in shaping science and environmental policy at the highest levels, nationally and internationally.

These are free public lectures, and each talk will begin at 5 p.m. in the Wolfson Hall, Churchill College. Following the lecture, there will be a free drinks reception and a private view of the exhibition ‘Science and technology at Churchill College: the first fifty years’ (further particulars available at http://www.chu.cam.ac.uk/about/news/sciencetech.php).

To reserve your place at either or both of the lectures, please contact development@chu.cam.ac.uk or 01223 336240.
