Amending Statutes for Jesus College: Notice

29 October 2010

The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that he has received from the Governing Body of Jesus College, in accordance with the provisions of Section 7(2) of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge Act 1923, the text of a proposed Statute to amend the Statutes of the College. The current Statutes of the College and the amending Statute are available on the College’s website (see http://www.jesus.cam.ac.uk/college/statutes/statutes.html); paper copies may be inspected at the University Offices until 10 a.m. on Wednesday, 17 November 2010.

Notice of benefactions

1 November 2010

The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that he has received with gratitude the following generous benefactions:

(i) a benefaction of £2m to be received over a period of four years from the Trustees of the Raymond and Beverly Sackler Foundation. This benefaction has been provided as a tribute to the Vice-Chancellor Emerita, Dame Alison Richard. It is intended to support a programme in Physics of Medicine that will include an exchange programme of students and staff with other institutions engaged in research in this field, postgraduate studentships, and seminars and research project development. In recognition of this generous gift and the Foundation’s previous support over many years, the Faculty Board of Physics and Chemistry have agreed to a proposal from the Steering Committee for the Physics of Medicine (PoM) Initiative that an area in the new Physics of Medicine Building at West Cambridge be named the Raymond and Beverly Sackler Research Centre in the Physics of Medicine;

(ii) a benefaction from Mr Dmitry Firtash of approximately £4m to be received over a period of two years to support Ukrainian Studies in the University.

The Council is accordingly submitting Graces to the Regent House (Graces 1 and 2, p. 134) for the approval of regulations to govern the Raymond and Beverly Sackler Fund for the Physics of Medicine and the Ukrainian Studies Endowment Fund.

Election to the Board of Scrutiny: Notice

The Vice-Chancellor announces that he has received the following nominations, in accordance with Statute A, VII, 3, for election to the Board of Scrutiny, and that it has been certified to him that the candidates have consented to be so nominated:

In class (c)(ii) (members of the Regent House chosen without limit of age)

Dr Mohammad Munawar Chaudhri, DAR, is nominated by Professor M. Jones, DAR, and Dr E. S. Leedham-Green, DAR

Mr Paul Charles Warren, CC, is nominated by Mr P. ffolkes Davis, TH, and Professor R. J. Bowring, SE

An election is necessary to select one member in class (c)(ii) to serve until 30 September 2011. The election will be conducted by postal ballot under the Single Transferable Vote Regulations. Voting papers will be distributed, together with the statements provided by candidates, not later than Monday, 15 November 2010. The last date for the return of voting papers will be Thursday, 25 November 2010.

Preacher at Mere’s Commemoration: Notice

The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that he has appointed The Reverend Angela Tilby, of Girton College, Tutor in Early Church History at Westcott House and Vicar of St Benedict’s Church, as Preacher at the Commemoration of John Mere, to be held in St Benedict’s Church, at 11.45 a.m., on Tuesday, 26 April 2011.
