Graces

Graces submitted to the Regent House on 12 May 2010

The Council submits the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 107), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 21 May 2010.

1. That the regulations for University Composition Fees be amended as follows:1

Regulation 10 (with effect from 1 September 2011 for students who commence a course on or after that date).

By deleting the second footnote, which refers to medical and veterinary students, attached to the text in line 3.

Regulation 12 (with effect from 1 September 2010 for students who commence a course on or after that date).

By attaching the following footnote to the end of the regulation:

Students who have proceeded to the B.A. Degree but have been given leave to read for another Tripos ‘not for honours’ are deemed to be ELQ students for the purpose of their fee liability (see Table 2B).

By replacing the table by the table set out in the Schedule to the Council’s Notice on p. 816.

2. That a David James Fund be established in the University, to be governed by the following regulations:2

David James Fund

1. The sum bequeathed to the University by the late David James, together with other funds received for the same purpose, shall form a fund called the David James Fund.

2. The administration of the Fund shall be entrusted to three Managers, who shall be the Head of the Department of Pharmacology and two persons nominated by the Faculty Board of Biology.

3. The income and the capital of the Fund shall be available for:

(i)the provision of one or more studentships to be called David James Studentships for those undertaking postgraduate research degrees in the Department of Pharmacology;

(ii)the furtherance of research and teaching in the Department of Pharmacology.

4. Any unexpended income of the Fund in a financial year shall be either added to the capital of the Fund or retained for use as income in future years, as the Managers may determine.

3. That the recommendations in paragraph 8 of the Report of the Council, dated 15 March 2010, on the construction of a new Student Resources Centre building for the Department of Veterinary Medicine (Reporter, 2009–10, p. 662) be approved.

The Council has sanctioned the submission of the following Graces to the Regent House at a Congregation to be held on 15 May 2010:

That the following persons be admitted to the degree of Master of Arts under the provisions of Statute B, III, 6:

1. Yasir Suleiman Malley, Fellow of King’s College and His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Sa’id Professor of Modern Arabic Studies.

2. Stephen John Eglen, University Senior Lecturer in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics.

3. Anthony Lund, Director, Cambridge University Press.
