Graces

Graces submitted to the Regent House on 28 April 2010

The Council submits the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 107), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 7 May 2010.

1. That, on the nomination of Christ’s College, Alan Thomas Winter, M.A., Ph.D., of that College, be appointed a Pro-Proctor for the academical year 2010–11.

2. That, on the nomination of Jesus College, Robert Brandon Gramacy, of that College, be appointed a Pro-Proctor for the academical year 2010–11.

3. That, on the nomination of the Vice-Chancellor and the Proctors Designate, Jeremy Lloyd Caddick, M.A., of Emmanuel College, and John Albert Little, M.A., Ph.D., of St Catharine’s College, be appointed Additional Pro-Proctors for the academical year 2010–11.

4. That the regulations for the Genzyme Fund for Clinical Neurosciences be amended so as to read:1

Genzyme Fund for Clinical Neurosciences

1. The sums to be received from the Board of Cambridge in America, representing a donation from the Genzyme Corporation, to support the study of Neuroimmunology shall form a fund to be called the Genzyme Fund for Clinical Neurosciences.

2. The Managers of the Fund shall be:

(a)the Head of the Department of Clinical Neurosciences,

(b)one person appointed by the Council of the School of Clinical Medicine,

(c)one person appointed by the General Board.

The Managers in classes (b) and (c) shall be appointed in the Michaelmas Term for a period of three years from 1 January following their appointment.

3. The first charge on the Fund shall be the payment of the stipend, national insurance, pension contributions, and associated indirect costs payable by the University in respect of a University officer concerned with teaching and research in Neuroimmunology established in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences.

4. Any unexpended income of the Fund in any financial year may, at the discretion of the Managers, be either added to the capital of the Fund, or accumulated for use as income in any one or more subsequent years, or applied to support research in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences.

5. In exceptional circumstances the Managers may, subject to the approval of the General Board, use such part or parts of the capital of the Fund as they shall determine to support the University officer referred to in Regulation 3 or for any other purpose as set out in Regulation 4 above.

5. That, on the recommendation of the General Board, the Professorship of Materials Science be discontinued until 1 October 2012 or until such earlier date as the Board shall determine after consultation with the Council of the School of the Physical Sciences and the Faculty Board of Physics and Chemistry.2

6. That Regulation 6(a) of the Smuts Memorial Fund be amended by replacing the words ‘Smuts Visiting Fellowships’ by the words ‘Smuts Visiting Research Fellowships’.3

7. That the regulations for the Consultative Committee for Safety (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 146) be amended as set out in the Council’s Notice on p. 759.

8. That the Annual Report of the Council for the academical year 2008–09 (Reporter, p. 295) be approved.4
