Annual Purchasing Exhibition: Notice

The Annual Purchasing Exhibition will take place on Thursday, 4 March 2010, between 10 a.m. and 2.30 p.m., in the Large and Small Exam Halls, New Museums Site. The exhibition will be formally opened by the Registrary, Dr Jonathan Nicholls, at 10.30.

This event will feature University preferred suppliers of both general and scientific products and services. The day offers visitors an invaluable opportunity to speak with supplier representatives and sample their products, as well as to attend a varied and topical seminar program.

The event is open to all staff of the University and entry will be by University Card only. To be included in the prize draw attendees will need to pre-register using the online form available at http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/purchasing/events/.

Announcement of lectures, seminars, etc.

The following lectures, seminars, etc. will be open to members of the University and others who are interested:

Criminology. Dr Ben Crewe, Senior Research Associate, Institute of Criminology, will give a public seminar entitled Revisiting the pains of imprisonment, at 5.30 p.m., on 25 February 2010, in Seminar Room B3 at the Institute of Criminology, Sidgwick Avenue.

Equality and Diversity. Annual open consultations: are we making progress? All are invited to attend one of the annual consultation events to discuss the University’s progress on equality and diversity and the law on 23 February, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. and 5.15 to 7.15 p.m., in the University Centre, Granta Place, Mill Lane. Trans in the workplace, 24 February, at 1 p.m., in the University Centre, Granta Place, Mill Lane. As part of the celebrations for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Trans History Month, the University of Cambridge and Encompass are hosting a workshop on good practice relating to Trans in the workplace. WiSETI Annual Lecture: From short cracks to glass ceilings, or An engineer in wonderland, by Professor Julia King CBE, on 9 March, at 5 p.m., in The Auditorium, Robinson College, Grange Road. The annual lecture for the Women in Science, Engineering, and Technology Initiative will explore the dynamic career of Professor King in engineering, academia, and policy development. Gender Studies. Multi-disciplinary Gender Research Seminar: Gendered detection: crime fiction and modern narrative, by Professor Mary Evans, School of Social Policy, Sociology, and Social Research, University of Kent, and Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science. The seminar will take place on Monday, 22 February 2010, from 12.30 to 1.30 p.m., in Room 101, Sir William Hardy Building, Downing Site. All are welcome.

Social and Developmental Psychology. Department of Social and Developmental Psychology (SDP) Seminar Series. The following seminars will take place in March 2010:

Emotional awareness, rational action, and self-understanding, by Dr John Lambie (Anglia Ruskin University), Friday, 5 March 2010, 1 to 2 p.m., PPSIS Seminar Room, New Museums Site, Free School Lane. The ethical brain, by Professor Michael Gazzaniga (University of California, Santa Barbara), Friday, 12 March 2010, 4 to 5.30 p.m., Mill Lane Lecture Room 3. This talk is hosted by Social and Developmental Psychology (SDP) and the Psychology and Religion Research Group (PRRG).
