Departmental Secretary, Grade C, in the Language Centre (maternity cover)

The Language Centre is seeking to appoint a Departmental Secretary to provide maternity cover. The post-holder will be responsible for maintaining the efficient and effective running of the Centre and for managing all financial, administrative, and HR matters relating to the Centre and its staff, acting on behalf of and reporting to the Director.

Candidates will need to be educated to degree level, to possess an equivalent business qualification, or have extensive experience in previous roles. Knowledge of University policies and procedures and the University’s CUFS accounting system would be an advantage. In addition to this, excellent computer skills including familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases are essential. The successful candidate will be organized and ordered, and be able to understand accounting procedures and to implement them in a methodical and systematic fashion.

The role requires relevant experience in a managerial or administrative position. Good communication skills and the ability to handle people across all levels are essential. This is an extremely interesting and challenging role for someone who would enjoy working with a multi-national team of staff and who has a strong interest in or knowledge of other languages.

The salary for the post will be in the range of £32,458 to £43,622 a year. Funds for the post are available for twelve months, or until the return of the post-holder, whichever is the earlier. The post will be vacant from 4 January 2010.

Simons Foundation Post-doctoral Fellowship in the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics

Applications are invited for a Simons Foundation Post-doctoral Fellowship to be held in the Department and to commence on 1 September 2010 or otherwise by agreement.

The Fellow will be free to pursue independent research associated with the research activities of the Department. It is a requirement that the Fellow teaches and examines one graduate-level lecture course in each year of the appointment.

To be eligible, applicants must have received their Ph.D. Degree during the academical year immediately preceding that in which the Fellowship would begin. The limit of tenure for this post is three years. The salary will be £36,101 a year.
