Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and Cambridge Overseas Trust

The Trustees have announced changes in the senior executive direction of the Cambridge Commonwealth and Overseas Trusts:

After nineteen years of distinguished service in that post, Professor Lord Lewis of Newnham, FRS, has resigned as Executive Chairman of the Trusts. Professor Sir Brian Heap, FRS, who has long served the Trusts as a Trustee, has resigned as Deputy Chairman. Dr Anil Seal has demitted office as Principal Adviser on External Affairs to the Trusts, a post which will not be replaced. Mr Simon Lebus has been appointed Executive Chairman.

On behalf of the Trustees, Mr Lebus paid warm tribute to the outstanding services to the Trusts of Lord Lewis, Sir Brian Heap, the many distinguished Trustees, both external and internal, officers of long-standing and, in particular, Dr Seal. He commented 'Jack Lewis and Brian Heap have been stalwart supporters of the Trusts for many years. Cambridge owes them a huge debt of gratitude for all they have done. Anil Seal, as founder Trustee and Director until his retirement last September, has worked tirelessly for the Trusts for more than twenty-five years. Generations of overseas students have been made able to undertake their education in Cambridge as a result of his efforts, and the development of the Trusts owes a huge amount to his energy and vision'.

The Trustees are pleased to learn that Dr Seal will continue to work for other trusts, and in other ways, for the continuing benefit of Cambridge.
