Faculty of History: Balzan-Skinner Lecture in Modern Intellectual History since c. 1500

The Faculty of History wish to invite applications for a scholar to deliver the second Balzan-Skinner Lecture in modern intellectual history since c. 1500. The Balzan-Skinner scholar will hold a Visiting Fellowship at the University's Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities (CRASSH) for one term or semester (up to a maximum of twelve weeks) during the 2010-11 academical year. He or she will be resident in Cambridge during this period which will conclude with the delivery of a lecture on a topic or theme in modern intellectual history since c. 1500, and a one-day colloquium to be held in conjunction with CRASSH. The Visiting Fellow will receive an accommodation grant of £2,000 and, in addition, a sum of up to £18,000 will be made available to reimburse her/his employing institution for the cost of releasing her/him from academic duties.

Applicants must hold posts (irrespective of the source of funding) in institutions of higher education or research and, ideally, must also be at an early stage of their career (normally no further than ten years beyond the award of the Ph.D. degree).
