Graces submitted to the Regent House on 8 July 2009

The Council submits the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 107), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 17 July 2009.

1. That Professor Stephen John Young, of Emmanuel College, be appointed a member of the Finance Committee of the Council to serve from 1 August 2009 until 31 December 2009 in place of Professor A. C. Minson.

2. That the regulations for Affiliated Students be amended as follows:1

Oriental Studies

(i) With effect from 1 October 2009
 By deleting sub-paragraph (b)(i).
(ii) With effect from 1 October 2011
 By deleting the entry for this subject.

3. That the additional regulations for the Precincts of the University and residence (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 180) and certain other regulations as set out in the Council's Notice of 6 July 2009 (p. 902) be approved with effect from the date of approval by Her Majesty in Council of the amendment to Statute B, III, approved by Grace 4 of 11 March 2009.

4. That, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Biology and with the concurrence of the General Board, the Quick Professorship of Biology be reassigned from the Department of Zoology to the Department of Biochemistry, with effect from 1 August 2009 for the remainder of Professor S. P. Jackson's tenure.2

5. That the Readership established by Grace 6 of 3 June 2009 for Dr P. D. P. Pharoah be assigned to the Department of Public Health and Primary Care.3

2 Statutes and Ordinances, p. 666. At each election to a Quick Professorship of Biology the Department to which the office is assigned is determined by Grace. Professor Jackson, the present holder of the Professorship, has proposed a reassignment of the office to the Department of Biochemistry to more closely reflect his current interests. This proposal has the support of the Heads of the two Departments concerned.

3 In the General Board's Report on Senior Academic Promotions Dr Pharoah's Readership was assigned to the Department of Oncology in error.
