DOMUS B GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

Merton College is offering two Domus B Graduate Scholarships in 2009. The scholarships are intended to assist Home and EU students of outstanding academic excellence who for financial reasons would not otherwise be able to study at the University of Oxford.

The scholarships provide College and University fees and a maintenance grant of £10,500 (current rate). Subject to satisfactory progress, the scholarships will be tenable for three years in the case of direct entry doctoral programmes and four in cases where a preparatory Master's course is required before the doctorate. Scholars are guaranteed College single accommodation (if required) for the first year, after which they can enter the graduate room ballot. Scholars must meet the costs of this accommodation themselves.

The competition is open to graduates of any university who can demonstrate that they satisfy all the following conditions: they have a first class honours degree; they are ordinarily resident in the UK or EU; they have not done more than two years of postgraduate study or research, and have, by 28 August 2009, been accepted to begin, but have not yet begun, a course of study leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford in October 2009 in any of the subjects normally acceptable for graduate study at the College, except the M.B.A., M.Sc. in Financial Economics, and M.Sc. in Management Studies (for a list of subjects normally acceptable, see the link to 'Programmes of Study by College' at http://www.ox.ac.uk/proxyadmissions/postgraduate_courses/college_guide/index.html); and they have no other funding which would allow them to take up this offer.

The College will consider applications from current Oxford students who are completing a Master's programme in the summer of 2009, but candidates who have already begun their D.Phil. are ineligible.

The closing date for receipt of applications for this competition is 28 August 2009. Applicants who have not been accepted as doctoral students by the relevant Faculty or Department of the University by 28 August 2009 will be rejected. Further particulars, including details of the applications process, can be downloaded from the Merton College website (http://www.merton.ox.ac.uk/vacancies/index.shtml), or in case of difficulty may be obtained from the Admissions Officer, Merton College, Oxford, OX1 4JD (tel. 01865 276299, fax 01865 286500, email admissions@admin.merton.ox.ac.uk).
