Homerton College and Jesus College

PART-TIME SCHOOLS LIAISON OFFICER

Homerton College and Jesus College are looking for a recent graduate with a good understanding of the Cambridge undergraduate system (and/or experience of teaching or advising Year 12 students) to help maintain and develop the Colleges' links with UK schools and colleges. The Colleges have projects working with schools and colleges in the maintained sector in South Yorkshire, the North East of England, and some London boroughs. Jesus College is also intending that the successful applicant work part-time within its admissions office during its busy period (November to January).

Applicants should have good interpersonal skills and be comfortable talking with individuals and groups of students, teachers, and career advisers. Potential applicants will need to be very well organized, computer-literate - preferably with some knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Word and Access - and able to work both alone and as a member of a team. Familiarity with the operation of video-conferencing technology is desirable, but not essential. Applicants will also need to demonstrate a strong commitment to establishing links with schools and school teachers and to encouraging their pupils to consider the possibility of making a Cambridge application. More generally, there will be an aim to spread the message of the value of continuing from school into a university course of higher education.

The work will be based in Cambridge but will involve some travel and require flexible hours of working. Possession of a full driving licence is desirable.

The position is part-time: 30 hours or four days a week. This is a shared post with Jesus College (50%) and Homerton College (30%). Appointment will be for one year in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for a further year, and the salary will be £20,834 a year (pro rata).

Applicants should note that a criminal record check will be required before the successful applicant is appointed.

For more information and application details, please contact Mrs McEvoy, Personnel Secretary, Homerton College (tel. 01223 747154, email jem84@cam.ac.uk).

The closing date for applications is Friday, 19 June 2009.
