COLLEGE LECTURESHIP AND FELLOWSHIP IN APPLIED MATHEMATICS (THEORETICAL PHYSICS)

Applications are invited for appointment from 1 October 2009 to a College Lectureship in Applied Mathematics together with a Fellowship, tenable for five years in the first instance. The successful applicant will be expected to teach and direct studies in the Mathematics Tripos, specifically in the area of Theoretical Physics.

The Lectureship will require six hours a week of College teaching (for twenty weeks a year) and will be tenable only by a person holding another salaried academic appointment in Cambridge. The stipend (payable in addition to the University stipend or other academic salary) will be in the range £8,390 to £11,120 a year. The point on the scale will be determined according to experience and qualifications.

The successful applicant will be elected into a Fellowship of the College. A Fellow who fulfils certain conditions about residence is entitled to a set of rooms in College, free of rent and rates but subject to charges for utilities, service, etc. Fellows not resident in College must normally reside during Full Term within the Cambridge area and are entitled to a teaching room in the College free of charge. There are schemes for assisting with house purchase, and with book purchases and computing. In addition, a Fellow is entitled to ninety free meals a quarter at the High Table, may apply to the College for assistance towards research expenses, and may apply for sabbatical leave on conditions similar to those laid down for University officers.

Application should be made to the Senior Tutor, Trinity College, Cambridge, CB2 1TQ (tel. 01223 330874, fax 01223 337732, email senior.tutor@trin.cam.ac.uk). Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, including a statement of qualifications, publications, and teaching experience, and should also ensure that three referees have written directly to the Senior Tutor on their behalf, before the closing date of Monday, 8 June 2009.
