TWO-YEAR DEPARTMENTAL LECTURERSHIP IN AMERICAN HISTORY

Applications are invited for a two-year, fixed-term Departmental Lecturership in American History, in the Faculty of History, tenable from 1 October 2009. The appointment is to fulfil teaching needs arising from the appointment of the current holder of the Rhodes Chair of American History, Professor Richard Carwardine, to the Presidency of Corpus Christi College, Oxford.

Applications are invited from those with active research interests in any field of American history, but the Faculty of History has a particular need for teaching of the Special Subject: Slavery, and the Crisis of the Union, 1854-65.

THREE-YEAR DEPARTMENTAL LECTURERSHIP IN MODERN IRISH HISTORY

Applications are invited for a three-year, fixed-term Departmental Lecturership in Modern Irish History, in the Faculty of History, tenable from 1 October 2009. The appointment is to fulfil teaching needs arising from the award of a British Academy Wolfson Research Professorship to the holder of the Carroll Chair of Irish History, Professor Roy Foster.

Applications are invited from those with active research interests in any field of Irish history since c.1800, but the Faculty has a particular need for teaching in the period c.1870-1921.

The appointment for both posts is on the University's Grade 7 salary scale, within the range of points 1-3 (£28,839 to £30,594 a year). Funding may be available for appointment at a higher salary point, under exceptional circumstances.
