Offices of Pro-Vice-Chancellor: Notice

The Council intends to make appointments to three Pro-Vice-Chancellorships from 1 January 2010, following the retirement from office of Professor Cliff, Professor Leslie, and Dr Pretty.

The role of Pro-Vice-Chancellors is to take forward strategy and policy development and to support the Vice-Chancellor in providing institutional leadership for the University, particularly in their areas of responsibility. The Pro-Vice-Chancellors work closely with the Chairs of Schools and senior professional administrators. Pro-Vice-Chancellors are appointed from senior members respected by the University.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellors will be appointed by the Council, after consultation with the General Board, for a period of three years from 1 January 2010. The Council is advised by a Nominating Committee chaired by the Vice-Chancellor and with the following members: Professor Frank Kelly, Dr David Good, Dr Rachael Padman (members of the Council), and Professor Philip Ford and Professor Sir Tom Blundell (members of the General Board).

The Pro-Vice-Chancellors will be appointed for up to 80% of full time on secondment for three years in the first instance. There is the possibility of reappointment to the statutory maximum tenure of six years. The stipend payable is £112,330 pro rata (as at 1 October 2008).

The Nominating Committee welcomes expressions of interest by and suggestions of suitable persons who hold a senior post in the University or a College, with extensive experience in higher education. Expressions of interest and suggestions should be communicated to the Vice-Chancellor, University Offices, The Old Schools, Cambridge, CB2 1TN, by 15 June 2009, from whom a fuller description of the role and information about the application and appointment process may also be requested.
