Announcement of lectures, seminars, etc.

The following lectures, seminars, etc. will be open to members of the University and others who are interested:

Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. The second Chuan Lyu Lecture 2009, entitled Generational differences in colonial and early post-war Taiwan, will be given by Professor Chou Wan-yao, of the National University of Tawain, at 5 p.m. on Thursday, 14 May, in Room 8, Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, Sidgwick Avenue. A reception will be held after the lecture.

Centre for Family Research (Faculty of Politics, Psychology, Sociology, and International Studies). Emeritus Professor Dr David Brodzinksy, of Rutgers University, will give a seminar entitled A biopsychosocial perspective on children's adjustment to adoption, at 5 p.m. on Thursday, 21 May, in the Maxwell Theatre, Faculty of Politics, Psychology, Sociology, and International Studies, Free School Lane.

Isaac Newton Institute. The Rothschild Visiting Professor, J. J. Duistermaat, of the University of Utrecht, will give a seminar, entitled QRT maps and elliptic surfaces, at 5 p.m. on Monday, 18 May, at the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Clarkson Road. The seminar will be followed by an informal reception at 6 p.m.
