STIPENDIARY LECTURERSHIP IN ENGINEERING

Applications are invited for a Stipendiary Lecturership in Engineering, tenable for a fixed term of one year from 15 September 2009, or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment is intended to provide substitute teaching provision while Dr Collins is on sabbatical leave in Michaelmas Term and Hilary Term and Dr Povey is on sabbatical leave in Trinity Term.

The Lecturer will be expected to teach (in tutorials and classes) six hours a week averaged over the three terms (twenty-four weeks) of the academical year. In addition, he or she will be expected to play a full role in the running of Engineering Science in the College, jointly with Dr Collins or Dr Povey, including arranging tuition in Engineering Science, setting and marking College examinations, and assisting with the pastoral care of undergraduates. He or she may also be asked to participate in the admissions process.

The successful candidate should be able to teach material in several of the following areas: Mathematics covering the P1 (first-year) and A1 (second-year) courses; Electricity, Electronics, and Control covering P2 (first-year) and A2 (second-year); Statics, Dynamics, Bending, Structures, and Mechanical Properties of Materials covering the P3 (first-year) and A3 (second-year) course. He or she will also be required to provide revision classes on the same material for first-, second-, and third-year students.

The salary will be on the Senior Tutors' stipendiary Lecturership scale, which for a teaching stint of six hours is on the scale £12,076 to £13,196 (depending on experience). The Lecturer will have access to a teaching room in College and will be entitled to lunch and dinner free of charge in College throughout the year when the kitchens are open, and to a number of other benefits.
