Candidates for Part IB must offer at least one paper from Section A (Historical topics) of the additional papers.

All papers are examined by a three-hour written examination with the exception of Part II, Paper 17, Choral studies. This paper will consist of a written examination of two hours' duration, and either a practical examination or submitted work. The written examination counts as 50% of the overall mark and the practical examination or submitted work counts for a further 50%.
