Announcement of lectures, seminars, etc.

The following lectures, seminars, etc. will be open to members of the University and others who are interested.

Criminology. Professor Klaus Boers, of the University of Muenster, and Professor Jost Reinecke, of the University of Bielefeld, will give a joint public seminar, entitled Pathways of delinquency and social structure during adolescence, at 5.30 p.m. on Thursday, 14 May, in Seminar Room B3, Institute of Criminology, Sidgwick Avenue.

Dr Loraine Gelsthorpe, Reader in Criminology and Criminal Justice, Institute of Criminology, will give the twelfth annual Bill McWilliams Memorial Lecture, entitled Women, penal reform, and the probation service, at 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday, 24 June, in LG18, Faculty of Law, West Road. History of Art. The Department of History of Art, Heffers, and Profile Books are hosting the 2009 Heffers Art History Lecture, entitled The Roman forum, presented by Professor David Watkin, Emeritus Professor of the History of Architecture, on Wednesday, 13 May, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., in Lecture Room 3, Mill Lane Lecture Rooms.

Physics. The Professor Sir Brian Pippard Memorial Meeting will take place from 11 a.m. on Monday, 11 May, in the Pippard Lecture Theatre, Cavendish Laboratory, JJ Thomson Avenue. Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics. Professor Andrew Granville, of Université de Montreal, will give the Ninety-Second Kuwait Foundation Lecture, entitled Multiplicative functions (and pretentions), at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, 12 May, in the Wolfson Room, Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Wilberforce Road (entrance on Clarkson Road before the Isaac Newton Institute).

Social Anthropology. Post-Doctoral Research Seminar Series. These seminars will take place on Mondays at 5 p.m. in the Seminar Room, Department of Social Anthropology, Free School Lane.

18 May The plural of anecdote isn't data: explorations in inter-disciplinary working practices, by Diane Hinds, of the Centre for Sustainable Development, Department of Engineering.
25 May Great pitfalls of anthropology: other people and the supernatural, by Istvan Praet, of Linacre College, University of Oxford.
1 June Venice, sinking and shrinking: from cosmopolitan capital to Disneyland, by Joanna Kostylo, of the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities.
8 June Speaking of continuity: change, conversion, and the anthropology of (Bidayuh) Christianity, by Liana Chua, of Gonville and Caius College.
