David Crighton Fellowships: Notice

The Managers of the David Crighton Fund are pleased to announce the winners of the David Crighton Fellowships for 2009. These Fellowships have been established to enable young researchers in the late Professor Crighton's areas of interest to undertake up to three months' study and research with a suitable host in Cambridge (or elsewhere, if they are already in Cambridge).

The 2009 David Crighton Fellows are:

Dr Marc Hesse of Brown University, to work with Professor Herbert Huppert in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics on 'Trapping dynamics of two-phase gravity currents in geological CO2 storage'.

Dr Daan Huybrechs of K.U.Leuven to work with Professor Arieh Iserles in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics on 'Highly oscillatory quadrature, modified Fourier expansions, tight frames, and their applications in electromagnetics and acoustics'.

Dr Patricia Kenzelmann of ETH, Zurich, to work with Dr Stephan Fueglistaler in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics on 'Chemistry-climate interactions: is our understanding sufficient to allow consideration of climate geo-engineering options?'.

Dr Marcus Roper, of the University of California, Berkeley, to work with Professor John Hinch in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics on 'Transition to irreversibility in a sheared suspension'.

Mr Peter Stewart, of the University of Nottingham, to work with Professor Tim Pedley in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics on 'Coherent structures in systems of swimming micro-organisms'.
