THE CAROLINA GUTIERREZ JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP FOR THE STUDY OF AUTISM AND RELATED DISABILITIES

University College invites applications for the Carolina Gutierrez Junior Research Fellowship for the Study of Autism and Related Disabilities, tenable for three years from 1 September 2009, or as soon as possible thereafter. The main focus of the research will be on establishing the genetic and neurobiological basis of autism and related disorders, in collaboration with the Oxford Autism Research Group or any other group as may be appropriate. The successful candidate will have a background in either developmental cognitive psychology, which could include the use of imaging or electrophysiological approaches, or in the analyses of complex MEG or ERP data. The world's first Magnetoencephalography (MEG) centre purpose built for the study of autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders opened in Oxford in February 2007, under the leadership of Professor Anthony Bailey, and the Fellow will have an opportunity to work within this unit, in pursuit of her or his own research programme.

The current stipend for a Junior Research Fellow not in receipt of other emoluments is £19,385. This sum will normally be reduced by the annual salary support received from any other funding body or other source (other than payment for piecemeal teaching), with a minimum stipend payable by the College of £2,500. The Fellow will be offered free lunches and dinners and free single accommodation in College if available, or a housing allowance in lieu (currently £4,935 a year). Fellows not living in College will be offered study space in College. The Fellow will also receive an academic allowance (currently £1,890), an entertainment allowance (currently up to £693), membership of USS, and private health insurance.
