The Board of Graduate Studies announced in August 2004 (Reporter, 2003-04, p. 1056) that, following the introduction of online application forms for admission to postgraduate courses, they would introduce a small charge for such applications. At the time the Board agreed that paper applications should not carry a charge. The Board has reviewed the applications procedures and has now agreed to introduce charges for paper applications in line with other UK institutions. The Board has informed the Council and the General Board of this proposal and has obtained approval from both these bodies to make a charge of £35 for both paper and online applications. (This is similar to the charge currently made by the University of Oxford.) To address access issues the Board has made provisions for non-electronic means of payment as well as for online payment.
