STIPENDIARY LECTURERSHIP IN EARLY MODERN HISTORY

Merton College proposes to appoint a Stipendiary Lecturer in Early Modern History to teach up to eight contact hours a week in Full Term during the academical year 2009-10. The Lecturer will be paid a stipend of £24,152, with entitlement to join USS and membership of the Common Room with the right to take meals free of charge.

The successful candidate should have completed (or be about to complete) her or his doctoral studies in a relevant field within Early Modern History and will be able to teach the following courses: History of the British Isles IV (1500-1700); General History III: Renaissance, Recovery, and Reform (1400-1650); Approaches to History and Disciplines of History (teaching shared with other tutors). In addition, the Lecturer will be expected to supervise third-year theses falling within the early modern period. It would also be an advantage to be able to teach one or more of the following: a first-year Optional Subject; a second-year Further Subject; second-year History of the British Isles III (1330-1550), General History VII (1409-1525), General History VIII (1517-1618), General History IX (1600-1715).

In addition to her or his teaching duties, the successful candidate will be expected to help with the organization of subjects involving History within College and to lend pastoral support to students reading for these degrees.
