Gonville and Caius College

COLLEGE LECTURESHIP IN FRENCH

Gonville and Caius College invites applications for a Fellowship and College Lectureship in French associated with a Directorship of Studies in Modern Languages. Applications from individuals with expertise in any relevant fields will be considered, but preference may be given to individuals with experience in teaching one or more of the following: French Literature, Visual Culture, Thought and History since 1600 or French Linguistics and the History of the Language. The successful candidate will be required to teach undergraduates on topics from the Cambridge undergraduate French course and will be contracted to teach pairs of students for ten hours a teaching week (there are twenty teaching weeks in an academical year). A person who already holds a University post would be required to teach six hours a week. Teaching Fellows are expected to pursue their own research and to contribute more generally to the academic community at Caius. Full-time College Teaching Officers are also encouraged to participate in the teaching, examining, and research activities of the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages.

The appointment will be for three years in the first instance, with the possibility of renewal for a further two years and thereafter reappointment to the retiring age. The current annual stipend of a College Lecturer who does not hold a University or other office is on the University Single Pay Spine - points 45 to 53 (currently in the range £32,458 to £41,118). This salary is pensionable under the University Superannuation Scheme (a defined-benefit scheme based on final salary). There is a £3,000 (indexed) residents' reduction in salary for Fellows occupying residential College accommodation. College Lecturers are entitled to one term of study leave following two years of service. The College has recently introduced a promotion and career progression scheme for its full-time College Lecturers. The additional stipend in respect of the Directorship of Studies is £2,686, rising in triennial increments to £5,038.

Details of other benefits attached to a Fellowship at Gonville and Caius College are available as a PDF document from the College website (http://www.cai.cam.ac.uk/fellows/collegelectureships/).

Written applications (electronic format preferred), including a full curriculum vitae, together with sample publications, should be sent to the Senior Tutor, Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, CB2 1TA (email senior.tutor@cai.cam.ac.uk) by 24 April 2009. Candidates are also asked to arrange for three supporting references to be sent to the same address, and by the same date. It is expected that interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place on 27 May 2009. It is intended that the person appointed will take up the Lectureship from 1 October 2009 or as soon as possible thereafter.
