Wadham College

ONE-YEAR STIPENDIARY LECTURERSHIP IN GERMAN

The College proposes to appoint a six-hour Stipendiary Lecturer in German for the academical year 2009-10 (from September 2009 to August 2010) to cover the College's teaching needs whilst Dr Duttlinger, the College's Fellow in German, is on leave.

The lecturer will be required to give six hours a week of tutorials during the eight weeks of Full Term (the College allows stipendiary lecturers to 'weight' their hours, and thus required real contact hours may be slightly less).

The lecturer will be expected to take responsibility for the teaching of German literature in the College. The period to be covered ranges from the late eighteenth century to the present. This involves the first-year literature and commentary papers (Papers III and IV) and, for the Final Honours School, the Modern Period Paper (Paper VIII) and those Special Authors (Paper X) which they are able to teach. While German grammar, conversation, and essay writing are taught centrally, the ability to teach translation either into or out of German would be an advantage.

The lecturer will be expected to take responsibility for those students reading German and for their teaching arrangements in German, including setting and marking collections (internal termly examinations) and authorizing reports, for oversight of their studies, and to share responsibility for the pastoral care of undergraduate students reading German. The lecturer will be a member of the College's Tutorial Board and be expected to attend its meetings. He or she would also be expected to be involved in the undergraduate admissions process.

The stipend will be on a scale from £12,076 to £13,592 for the year (the Senior Tutors' Committee recommended scale), subject to revision in line with national adjustments to University teachers' salaries, and the position is superannuable under USS. Further particulars of the post should be obtained from http://www.wadham.ox.ac.uk/. The closing date for applications is Wednesday, 4 March 2009. Applicants should ask two referees to write or email direct to the College's Academic Administrator by the same date.

R. J. P. WILLIAMS JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP IN CHEMISTRY (NON-STIPENDIARY)

The College proposes to elect a fixed-term, non-stipendiary Junior Research Fellowship in Chemistry (broadly defined) from 1 October 2009. The post is intended to provide a College attachment for a post-doctoral researcher in one of the Science Departments of the University, and will be tenable for one year in the first instance and renewable for a further two years, or until the University research post terminates, whichever is the sooner. The post will not be renewed beyond the third year.

The successful candidate will have produced research of a high quality (taking into account the stage of their career). The committee will also consider the degree to which candidates will enrich the academic life of the College and to which their careers may be enhanced by such an association. Preference will be given to those who have not previously held a Fellowship at an Oxford or Cambridge College.

The Fellow will be entitled to lunch and dinner at common table free of charge. He or she will also be entitled to a modest academic allowance to help with research expenditure, the purchase of books or the costs of attending relevant conferences.

The deadline for applications is Thursday, 2 April 2009. Further details are available from the Wadham College website (http://www.wadham.ox.ac.uk/).
