University of Oxford

PROFESSORSHIP OF EVIDENCE-BASED SOCIAL INTERVENTION

Applications are invited for the above post, based in the Department of Social Policy and Social Work, tenable from 1 September 2009, or such later date as may be arranged.

The University is seeking an outstanding scholar whose research and teaching expertise extends or complements the existing strengths of the Department. Relevant disciplinary backgrounds include psychology, social epidemiology, social work, health and social care, psychiatry, and criminology. However, priority will be given to candidates with international excellence in research and publication, rather than to specialists in any specific field.

The successful appointee will be a member of the Centre for Evidence-Based Intervention (CEBI), one of the largest research groups in the Department of Social Policy and Social Work which specializes in high-quality evaluation of interventions for social and psychosocial problems, in particular through conducting randomized trials, systematic reviews, and other evaluation designs. CEBI's current research interests include child and adult mental health, youth and family intervention, care of the elderly, anti-social behaviour, HIV/AIDS prevention, and substance misuse. For further details, see http://www.spsw.ox.ac.uk/about/vacancies.html#c343.

The Professor will be expected to engage in research and to teach in evidence-based social intervention. He or she will be able to demonstrate evidence of teaching excellence at the graduate level and to have experience of working collaboratively in interdisciplinary contexts. The Professorship will be held in the Department of Social Policy and Social Work. A non-stipendiary Professorial Fellowship at St Hilda's College is attached to the post.

The deadline for applications is 16 March 2009. See below for further information.

AMERICAN STANDARD COMPANIES PROFESSOR OF OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

The Saïd Business School is seeking an eminent academic to take up the Professorship of Operations Management in 2009 on the retirement of the current post-holder. The Professorship was generously endowed by the American Standard Companies in 1996 and is associated with a 'Studentship' (Fellowship) at Christ Church College. This will be an important position within the School and the University. Evidence of both the applicant's international reputation as a scholar and potential to contribute to the future research profile of the School will be significant factors in determining suitability for the post.

The deadline for applications is 23 March 2009. See below for further information.

ISAAC WOLFSON PROFESSORSHIP OF MATERIALS

Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from 1 October 2010, or such earlier date as may be arranged. The University hopes to make a proleptic appointment in advance of the retirement of the current holder of this post, Professor David Pettifor, CBE, FRS.

The Isaac Wolfson Professorship is the most senior of the five statutory Professorships in the Oxford Materials Department. The University seeks to appoint a person with a record of outstanding international excellence in research in any field within the broad definition of the discipline of Metallurgy/Materials Science who, through leadership and the distinction of her or his contribution to the field, will ensure the pursuit of the highest standards in research and teaching at Oxford, and its wide recognition outside. The holder of the chair will be elected to a Professorial Fellowship at St Edmund Hall.

The deadline for applications is 30 March 2009.
