Notice of benefactions

15 December 2008

The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that she has received with gratitude a generous benefaction of £1.35m from the Coexist Foundation. This, together with a similar benefaction from the Polonsky Foundation, will be used to support teaching and research in Judaism with special reference to the relations with the other Abrahamic faiths, namely Christianity and Islam, in the University. The benefaction will be used to endow a University Lectureship in Jewish Studies in the Faculty of Divinity and more generally to support the study of the relations between the Abrahamic faiths.

The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that she has accepted with gratitude a benefaction of about £50,000, which has been contributed by friends and colleagues of the late William James Mills, formerly Librarian of the Scott Polar Research Institute, to establish a fund in his memory to support the Institute's Library.

12 January 2009

The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that she has received with gratitude benefactions of £250,000 each from the Eranda Foundation and Bharti Airtel Limited at the request of the Bharti Foundation to support Indian undergraduate students at the University. She is pleased to announce that the Prime Minister of India has graciously permitted the proposed Bursary Fund to be named in his honour.

The Council is submitting Graces to the Regent House (Graces 1-3, p. 394) for the approval of regulations to govern the benefactions and the Lectureship.
