SIDNEY TRUELOVE PROFESSORSHIP OF GASTROENTEROLOGY

Applications are invited for the above post, which will be appointed as soon as may be possible. The Unit of Gastroenterology has a broad, multidisciplinary portfolio of activity in academic gastroenterology, with major interests in the pathogenesis, assessment, and therapy of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and coeliac disease. The University wishes to appoint an individual of the highest calibre, who can lead academic gastroenterology within the Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine and the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidate will have an outstanding record in relevant research and a demonstrable ability to compete for and to obtain substantial, independent, external grant support.

A non-stipendiary Fellowship at Green Templeton College is attached to the Professorship.

UNIVERSITY LECTURERSHIP IN MODERN ARABIC LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE

The University proposes to appoint a University Lecturer in Modern Arabic Language and Literature in the Faculty of Oriental Studies with effect from 1 October 2009 or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a joint appointment to be held in conjunction with an Official Fellowship at St John's College. The combined salary will be according to experience, on the scale £42,315 to £56,917 a year.

The successful applicant will be a specialist in one or more fields of modern Arabic literature (from c. 1800 C.E.), and will be able to teach undergraduates and supervise graduate students across the whole field of modern Arabic literature.

UNIVERSITY LECTURERSHIP IN MUSIC

Applications are invited for a University Lecturership in the Faculty of Music, in association with Merton College and University College. The post is tenable from 1 October 2009 or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a joint appointment: the person appointed to the University Lecturership will also be appointed to a Tutorial Fellowship at Merton College and a Lecturership at University College. The combined University and College salary will be on a scale from £42,351 to £56,917 a year.

The University and the Colleges are seeking candidates with interests in any area of musicology, particularly those concerned with music in its critical and cultural contexts, and/or theory and analysis. The person appointed will have the potential to enhance the high reputation of the Music Faculty in research and teaching. He or she will have a proven record of scholarship and research at a level of international recognition, or the clear promise of such achievement. He or she will be required to provide a high standard of teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including the supervision of research students, and will be expected to play an active role in Faculty and College administration.

DEPARTMENTAL LECTURERSHIP IN TURKISH

Applications are invited for a teaching position in Turkish in the Faculty of Oriental Studies. This fixed-term post is to commence on 1 October 2009 and run until 30 September 2010. The principal duties of the post are to give lectures and classes in Turkish literature during the absence on research leave of Dr Celia Kerslake in the academical year 2009-10, to examine, and to conduct research. Candidates should have a primary field of expertise in modern or Ottoman Turkish literature; hold, or be working towards, a doctorate in an appropriate field; be able to provide evidence of published, or soon to be published, research; and be able to demonstrate that they can teach modern and pre-modern Turkish literature and translation from Ottoman and modern Turkish into English. The salary will be in the range of £28,839 to £35,469 a year.
