Weidenfeld Scholarships to the University of Oxford

DEAN OF STUDIES

The Weidenfeld Scholarships and Leadership Programme at the University of Oxford seeks to recruit an experienced academic to the post of part-time Dean of Studies. The position is Oxford based and will be offered, initially, on the basis of two-and-a-half days a week.

The Programme was initiated by, and is financed through, the London based Institute of Strategic Dialogue, a non-profit organization devoted to governmental and cultural bridge-building within Europe and its wider neighbourhood (http://www.strategicdialogue.org/). The Programme, which is currently acquiring a headquarters in central Oxford, fosters the education and careers of prospective future leaders by providing fully-funded scholarships for postgraduate study at Oxford University. Scholars are drawn from Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Russia, the Middle East and North Africa, and the United States.

The responsibilities of the Dean of Studies will involve close collaboration with the Programme's Academic Director and the Institute's Executive Director, and also include close liaison with University and College authorities in overseeing the Scholars' studies and extra-curricular activities; the provision of academic support and pastoral care; management of relationships between the scholars, the University, Advisory Board members, and alumni. The successful candidate will have a strong academic background; excellent communication skills; experience of dealing with the Oxford University administration, in designing programmes, and with fundraising; and an interest in, and possibly experience of, the target geographies with which the programme deals. The salary will be at a Professorial level pro rata, and depending on experience.

Applicants for the post are requested to send a full curriculum vitae and list of publications, with a covering letter, to Ms Victoria Fraser (email info@strategicdialogue.org) by 5 p.m. on Friday, 12 December 2008. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview, and to make a presentation to the Appointment Committee, in early January 2009.
