POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS IN ARTS AND SCIENCE

Lucy Cavendish College is offering one stipendiary and two non-stipendiary Research Fellowships for women* who hold the Ph.D. Degree**. The appointments will be for one year in the first instance from 1 October 2009 and will be renewable for a further two years subject to satisfactory progress and annual reports. Successful candidates will be expected to become members of the College, to reside in Cambridge, and to participate fully in College life.

ALICE TONG SZE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

Applicants should hold a doctorate in an arts subject. The Fellowship is for study in the arts, especially languages, in a research area that relates scholarship to current issues facing the world.

LU GWEI DJEN RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

Applicants should hold a doctorate in a science subject. The Fellowship is for research, preferably in applied medicine or biology, that relates scholarship to current issues facing the world.

NON-STIPENDIARY RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

The Ethel Cruickshank Research Fellowship is open to applicants who hold a doctorate in a scientific subject and who are in receipt of full funding for research in any area of science.

For the Greenwood Bidder Research Fellowship there is no restriction on subject but in cases of equal merit, preference will be given to candidates working in the natural sciences, particularly the biological sciences. Candidates for this Fellowship should also hold a doctorate and be in receipt of full funding.

For the Alice Tong Sze and the Lu Gwei Djen Research Fellowships, the stipend will be £17,000 a year, depending on funding already available to the candidate. Candidates who wish to hold the Research Fellowship on a part-time basis will also be considered, in which case the stipend would be pro-rata. There is no stipend for the Ethel Cruickshank or Greenwood Bidder Research Fellowships.

Both stipendiary and non-stipendiary Research Fellows are entitled to a meals allowance and a travel/book grant. The Alice Tong Sze and Lu Gwei Djen Research Fellows may also be offered subsidized accommodation in College, subject to availability.

The closing date for receipt of applications and references is noon on Friday, 16 January 2009. Interviews will be held in April 2009.

* By the Employment Act 1989, the College has exemption from the provisions of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975, in relation to gender.

** The successful candidates must hold a doctorate at the time of the start of the appointment in October 2009.
