The College intends to award at least two non-stipendiary postdoctoral Research Fellowships, tenable for three years initially. These Fellowships may be renewed for a further period of two years, making five years tenure in all. To be eligible, a candidate should normally have secured, or be in the process of securing, funding commensurate with postdoctoral standing in a Department, Faculty or other institution of, or associated with, the University. He/she must be resident within the precincts of the University on entry to, as well as ordinarily during the initial tenure of the Fellowship and, on election, be early in their research career. Formal approval for the Ph.D. Degree must have been obtained before the successful candidates will be able to enter into tenure of their Fellowships. Aside from these stipulations, there are no conditions of age, or of subject attached to these Fellowships. Research Fellows are members of the Governing Body, eligible to sit on College committees, and will be expected to play an active role in the life of the College. They will be entitled to the normal privileges of Fellows of Hughes Hall; financial support may be available when attending meetings as participants and towards expenses associated with their research.

Franklin, Registrary, Hughes Hall, Cambridge, CB1 2EW, by 14 January 2009, together with a curriculum vitae, the names of three referees, a statement of not more than 1,000 words outlining present and future research, intelligible to a non-specialist, and details of the applicant's present and expected means of financial support. There is no separate application form. Applicants should ask their referees to write directly to Dr Franklin by that date. Candidates may be called for interview on 2 February 2009 or subsequently.
