Theological and Religious Studies Tripos, 2009

The Faculty Board of Divinity give notice that, with effect from the examinations to be held in 2009, the form of the examination for the Theological and Religious Studies Tripos will be changed as follows:

Group B

Paper B11. Ethics and faith

The examination will take the form of a three-hour written paper. The paper will contain at least fourteen questions. Candidates will be required to answer four questions.

Paper B13. Religious themes in literature

The paper will be assessed by a submitted portfolio of supervision essays. Guidelines for these and the topics for essays will be found on the Faculty's website from the beginning of the Michaelmas Term in the year in which the paper is taught.

Group C

Paper C5. Study of theology II

The examination will take the form of a three-hour written paper divided into two sections. Students will be required to answer four questions, two from each section. Section One will relate to key texts and theologians and will contain at least six questions; Section Two will relate to general issues in ecclesiology and sacramental theology, and will contain at least six questions.

Paper C7. Topics in the study of religion

The examination will take the form of a three-hour written paper. This will contain at least sixteen essay-type questions, in four sections, with at least four questions in each section. The sections will contain questions concerned respectively with (a) evolution, (b) brain and (c) cognition, and (d) general integrative issues. Candidates will be required to answer three questions, each from a different section.

Paper C12. Theology and science

The examination will take the form of a three-hour written paper, containing at least fifteen questions divided into two sections: Section A - Theology in Scientific Context, and Section B - Perspectives on the Dialogue between Theology and Science. Candidates will be required to attempt four questions, including at least one from each section.

Group D

Paper D1a. Old Testament

The examination will take the form of a three-hour written paper. Candidates will be required to comment on four passages from a selection of seven and to answer two essay questions, one from Section A and one from Section B from a choice of about eleven in total. A specimen paper is available.
