COLLEGE LECTURERSHIP IN MEDIEVAL ENGLISH LITERATURE

Jesus and Oriel Colleges invite applications for a fixed-term eight-hour Stipendiary Lecturership in Medieval English from 1 January to 31 December 2009, to cover an expected period of maternity leave. The successful candidate will provide teaching in tutorials and classes for all Old and Middle English papers as required (details of the papers are in the further particulars). In addition, he or she will be expected to set and mark College examinations, to participate in the routine administration of English, to take part in undergraduate admissions, and to assist in the pastoral care of undergraduates reading the subject.

Candidates should have a strong educational background, with a good first degree in English, and should be working for or have already obtained a doctorate in early or late Medieval English Literature. Competence in both Old and Middle English is required and some teaching experience would be an advantage. The salary for the post is on a scale from £16,101 to £18,122 a year, depending on qualifications and experience, and membership of the USS pension scheme is offered. The Lecturer may take lunch and dinner free of charge during weeks 0 to 9 of each term. Research allowances, a teaching book allowance, and student hospitality allowance, currently worth approximately £1,150 a year in total, are also offered, as well as access to a teaching room.

Further particulars, including details of how to apply, are available from the Academic Posts Assistant, Jesus College, Oxford, OX1 3DW (email posts@jesus.ox.ac.uk) and from the Jesus College website (http://www.jesus.ox.ac.uk/). The closing date is Tuesday, 11 November, and it is expected that interviews will take place on the morning of Tuesday, 2 December.

Jesus College and Oriel College are equal opportunities employers.
