PROFESSORSHIP IN THE STUDY OF THE ABRAHAMIC RELIGIONS

Applications are invited for this newly established post, tenable with effect from 1 October 2009, or such date as may be arranged.

The Professorship is funded by a generous benefaction, and the first holder will play a vital role in helping the Faculty of Theology to develop a new paradigm for its work in the Study of Religion. The successful candidate will have an outstanding research and publication record, and can expect to benefit from Oxford's international renown as a base for her or his own research activities. Applicants may be specialists primarily in any one of the three Abrahamic Religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) and their record of research and publication should also reflect a strong interest in relations between at least two of these, as well as demonstrating an active interest in the concept of Abrahamic Religions and its application to the study of these three religions, whether with regard to their theology, history or culture.

A non-stipendiary Fellowship at Lady Margaret Hall is attached to the Professorship.

Applications (ten copies, or one only from overseas candidates), naming three persons who have agreed to act as referees on this occasion, should be received not later than 22 December 2008, by Dr Gwen Booth, Personnel Officer, Senior Appointments, University Offices, Wellington Square, Oxford, OX1 2JD. The further particulars may be found on the University website (http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/fp/) and may also be obtained from Mrs Elaine Eastgate (tel. 01865 280189).
