PROFESSORSHIP OF MATHEMATICAL MODELLING

Applications are invited for the newly created post of Professor of Mathematical Modelling, tenable from 1 October 2009, or as soon as possible thereafter. The Professorship will be held in the Mathematical Institute, in association with a non-stipendiary Professorial Fellowship at St Catherine's College.

The University is seeking a world-class applied mathematician who, through leadership and distinction of her or his contribution to the field, will ensure the continuing pursuit of excellence in research and teaching in physical applied mathematics and especially in the mathematical modelling of real-world problems. The person appointed will be expected to play a leading role in the development of the newly formed Oxford Centre for Collaborative Applied Mathematics (OCCAM), funded for five years from 1 October 2008 by the Global Research Partnership of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).

The chair is funded by the KAUST GRP grant for at least the period 2009-13, with the remainder of the funding until retirement of the Professor coming from the University.

Applications (ten copies, or one copy only from overseas candidates), naming three persons who have agreed to act as referees on this occasion, should be received not later than 15 December 2008, by Dr Gwen Booth, Personnel Officer, Senior Appointments, University Offices, Wellington Square, Oxford, OX1 2JD. The further particulars may be found on the University of Oxford website (http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/fp/) and may also be obtained from Mrs Elaine Eastgate (tel. 01865 280189).

Further information may be obtained on a strictly confidential basis from the Chairman of the Mathematical Institute, Professor Nick Woodhouse (email nwoodh@maths.ox.ac.uk).
