Gonville and Caius College

COLLEGE LECTURESHIP IN ECONOMICS

Gonville and Caius College invites applications for a Fellow and full-time College Lecturer in Economics. Applications from individuals with experience teaching macroeconomic theory would be particularly welcome, though individuals with teaching experience in microeconomic theory are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be required to teach undergraduates on topics from the Cambridge undergraduate Economics course and will be contracted to teach pairs of students for ten hours per teaching week (there are twenty teaching weeks per academical year); in practice, Economics undergraduates are usually taught in groups of three or four, and the ten-hour contract is adjusted downward accordingly. Teaching Fellows are expected to pursue their own research and to contribute more generally to the academic community at Caius. They are also encouraged to participate in the teaching, examining, and research activities of the Faculty of Economics.

The appointment will be for three years in the first instance, with the possibility of renewal for a further two years and thereafter reappointment to the retiring age. The current annual stipend of a College Lecturer who does not hold a University or other office is on the University Single Pay Spine - points 45 to 53 (currently in the range of £30,912 to £39,160). This salary is pensionable under the University Superannuation Scheme (a full-salary scheme). There is a £3,000 (indexed) residents' reduction in salary for Fellows occupying College accommodation. College Lecturers are entitled to one term of study leave per two years of service. The College has recently introduced a promotion and career progression scheme for its full-time College Lecturers.

Further particulars can be obtained from the College website (http://www.cai.cam.ac.uk/) or via email (senior.tutor@cai.cam.ac.uk). Written applications, including a full curriculum vitae, should be sent to the Senior Tutor, Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, CB2 1TA, by 10 October 2008. Candidates are also asked to arrange for three supporting references to be sent to the same address by the same date. It is hoped that interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place on 19 November 2008. It is intended that the person appointed will take up the Lectureship from 1 January 2009 or as soon as possible thereafter.
