Herchel Smith Postdoctoral Research Fellowship: Notice

The Managers of the Herchel Smith Postdoctoral Research Fellowships Fund invite applications for a Fellowship in Pure Mathematics to be held in the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics from 1 October 2009 or otherwise by negotiation. The Fellowship is available for between two to three years.

Applications are invited from candidates who have completed their Ph.D. Degree, or equivalent, within the last three years at any university, but normally excluding Cambridge and Harvard.

The Fellowship provides an opportunity for independent research, although the holder will usually work in close collaboration with established research groups. The stipend will be on the University's Postdoctoral Research Associate scale which currently is between £25,888 to £33,780 a year (pay award pending). Appointment will be at an appropriate point on this scale. The closing date for applications is 1 December 2008.
