Telephone Replacement Project: Notice

The Telephone Replacement Project is a joint venture between the University, the Colleges, and affiliated organizations equalling nearly 200 institutions. The project will replace the legacy telephone system used by the University since 1984 and all of the 15,500 handsets with new digital handsets which utilise Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technologies.

As of the end of September, approximately 6,000 handsets had been deployed with another 3,000 planned by the end of December. The project is set to complete at the end of 2009. Currently, the project is on time and within the original budget.

The following chart indicates the expected progress of the project. The chart indicates progress to date well ahead of straight line projections up until April 2008 and a shortfall afterwards which is accounted for by institutions that have not been, but shortly will be, scheduled.
