Graces submitted to the Regent House on 6 August 2008

The Council submits the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 107), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 15 August 2008.

1. That the regulations for University Composition Fees be amended as follows:1

Regulation 10.

By amending the first footnote to this regulation by removing the words in parentheses and by inserting at the end of the regulation the following sentence:

A student who is dissatisfied with her or his categorization for the purposes of University Composition Fees shall proceed under the Student Complaints Procedure* and, for the purpose of that Procedure, the matter complained of shall be taken to have occurred at the time of commencement of the course of study.

TABLE OF FEES

By inserting in the note at the end of the Table the following sentence:

Where an M.Phil. course is taken on a part-time basis over two years the fee payable each term is half that shown above.

By amending the entry for Oriental Studies so as to read Asian and Middle Eastern Studies.

With effect from 1 October 2009

By amending the entry for Management Science so as to read Management Science and Operations, by deleting the entries for Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing and for Quaternary Science, and by inserting the following entries:

With effect from 1 October 2008

By deleting the entry for Latin-American Studies.

APPENDIX

Definition of an overseas student for the purposes of University Composition Fees

By replacing the text of the Appendix so as to read:

An overseas student is a person to whom the University may lawfully charge higher fees than persons not so categorized by virtue of the provisions of the Education (Fees and Awards) (England) Regulations, as they may be amended from time to time.*

* The current regulations are the Education (Fees and Awards) (England) Regulations 2007 (Statutory Instruments 2007, No. 779) as amended by the Education (Student Fees, Awards and Support) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2007 (Statutory Instruments 2007, No. 2263). The category of persons who are not overseas students is defined in Schedule 1 to the Regulations.

2. That Regulation 2 for the Contributory Pension Scheme be amended so as to read:2

2. The Trustee of the Scheme shall be CU Pension Trustee Ltd acting through a Managing Committee appointed in accordance with the rules of the Scheme and shall hold the Fund on trust to apply it in accordance with the provisions of the Scheme.

The definition of overseas students published in the Appendix to the regulations for University Composition Fees has been replaced by reference to the provisions of the Education (Fees and Awards) (England) Regulations. The regulations for University Composition Fees have been amended to include provision for a candidate to object to her or his fee categorization using the Student Complaints Procedure. The opportunity has been taken to include recent amendments to various postgraduate courses (see the General Board's Notices, pp. 959-61 and 1046).
