Announcement of lectures, seminars, etc.

The following lectures, seminars, etc. will be open to members of the University and others who are interested:

Isaac Newton Institute. The Rothschild Visiting Professor, Jürg Fröhlich, of ETH Zurich, will give a seminar at 5 p.m. on Monday, 18 August, entitled Atomism and quantization. The seminar will be followed by an informal reception at 6 p.m.

The Rothschild Visiting Professor, Katepalli Sreenivasan, of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, will give a seminar at 5 p.m. on Monday, 29 September, entitled Cryogenic turbulence. The seminar will be followed by an informal reception at 6 p.m.

MRC Dunn Human Nutrition Unit. The fifth Sir William Dunn Scholar, Professor Massimo Zeviani, of the Instituto Nazionale Neurologico 'Carlo Besta', of Milan, will give the following lectures in the Raymond and Beverly Sackler Lecture Theatre, Level 7, Wellcome Trust/MRC Building, Hills Road, at 3 p.m.

12 August Nucleus-driven mtDNA disorders: disrupting an intricate wiring system
13 August New mutant genes expand the variety of mechanisms leading to mitochondrial disease
20 August Devil in the bottle: a sulfurous conundrum in a mitochondrial disease

Social Anthropology. The Sir James George Frazer Memorial Lecture entitled On the anthropology of the contemporary will be given by Professor Paul Rabinow of the University of California, Berkeley, on Friday, 31 October, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Lecture Room 3 at 8 Mill Lane. All members of the University and others who are interested are welcome.
