University Office

Energy Officer (Advisory Officer, Grade I) in the Estate Management and Building Service (EMBS) of the University Offices

The Estate Management and Building Service (EMBS) seeks to appoint an Energy Officer in the Energy Team of its Maintenance Section. The EMBS Energy Team aims to reduce carbon emissions from University buildings by improving their energy efficiency. Reporting to the Energy Manager, the Energy Officer is a senior appointment within that well resourced team.

The role involves survey work to identify energy saving opportunities as well as the design and project management necessary to implement the recommended measures. This means the post-holder will have the freedom to be creative and have the chance to see her/his ideas through to fruition.

As the main link between EMBS and University Departments, the Energy Officer also works with staff and students to find new ways of reducing the University's carbon footprint.

The successful candidate will have a sound technical background, with practical experience in the design or maintenance of building services, and possess at least an HNC/HND in a relevant discipline. He or she will also need to display first class communication skills to engage with staff throughout the organization. If the post-holder is not already a Low Carbon Consultant then he or she will be prepared to work towards this status. The University is committed to developing the full potential of its staff so full support would be provided for the pursuit of any appropriate qualifications.

Appointment will be to the retiring age subject to satisfactory completion of a probationary period. The pensionable scale of stipends is currently £30,912 to £41,545 a year, with potential progression on contribution once in post to £45,397.
