Centre of South Asian Studies: Notice

The General Board have accepted a recommendation from the Council of the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences that the Centre of South Asian Studies should be formally incorporated as an institution within the School.

Following the recent review of South Asian Studies the General Board, in their Report on the restructuring of the Faculty of Oriental Studies (Reporter, 2006-07, p. 314), agreed that the Centre should be located close to the areas of widest academic activity in that area; this in turn implied placing the Centre within the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences. The Council of the School has included the Centre in its strategic plan and values its academic contribution to both the School and the University.

The Management Committee of the Centre has been consulted and has agreed with proposals to change the regulations to include the Centre as an institution within the School.

The General Board have accordingly recommended to the Council that a Grace be submitted to the Regent House to approve the necessary changes to the regulations. Subject to the approval of the Grace the regulations for the Centre will be amended as set out in the Schedule below.

The Council has accepted the General Board's recommendation and is accordingly submitting a Grace (Grace 3, p. 967) for the approval of an amendment to the regulations for the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences.
