POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH OFFICER IN SPATIAL ECONOMICS

Nuffield College invites applications for the fixed-term post of Post-Doctoral Research Officer in Spatial Economics.

The primary duty of the Post-Doctoral Research Officer will be to work on research projects central to the new collaborative Spatial Economics Research Centre (SERC) jointly established by Oxford University, the LSE, and other UK universities. The Research Officer will be based at Nuffield College, Oxford, and will report to Professor John Muellbauer. The duties of the post will include managing and extending the primarily UK database, and developing econometric models at broad regional and finer spatial resolutions. The Research Officer will be expected to prepare papers for publication, to collaborate with colleagues from the University of Oxford and other universities, and to participate in SERC workshops and conferences and in the dissemination of research findings.

The Research Officer will have completed a doctorate in Economics or a closely related subject such as Econometrics, and will have a record of scholarly publications. He or she will have interests in the economics of housing markets, labour markets, spatial inequality, migration, location decisions, or economic geography. Candidates should be able to demonstrate deep experience in econometric research and in managing and analysing large databases, including experience with software such as TSP, STATA, and languages such as OX and GAUSS.

The post is tenable from 1 October 2008 until 31 March 2011 for 35 hours a week. The salary will be up to £32,498 a year.
